Sherman Real Estate Information
The 2,800-person village of Sherman is part of the greater Springfield area and hosts a primarily residential community of people who work in the city during the day and retreat to their suburban neighborhood in the evenings. Situated just five miles north of Springfield, residents of Sherman enjoy being close to many of the capital’s superb resources that make living simple and easy. Major shopping facilities, many Lincoln historical sites, and the new Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library are not too far away.
This proximity makes life manageable despite being outside of the Springfield proper area. While several local businesses are based in Sherman, including a number of construction companies, automotive repair garages, and landscaping firms, Sherman is also lucky to be served by a number of larger chain companies. Several financial institutions have offices in Sherman to serve the local population.
Much of the local real estate has been developed in the perspective of a park like setting with spacious lots and a number of open green spaces. This beautiful and respected environment has led to the successful development of a cohesive community that cares about each other. As part of the Williamsville School District, parents can be assured that their children are receiving quality educations. Sherman Elementary School is located in the heart of Sherman while students in grade six and above are served in nearby Williamsville via Williamsville Junior High School and Williamsville High School.
Sherman is located adjacent to the Rail Golf Club that is in the eastern portion of the village. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the former 240-acre dairy farm has been converted into a four-star course, as ranked by the Golf Digest Magazine and has been voted as one of the best places to play golf in Central Illinois. Featuring eighty-two sand bunkers and five lakes, the high degree of difficulty can be attributed to the large presence of hazards on the course. The beautiful outdoor lawn also hosts a number of weddings, special events, and banquets throughout the year.
